Kapamilya actress Zsa Zsa Padilla has confirmed to ABS-CBN news that the Comedy King died, Dolphy has passed away. He was 83 years old.
In 2009, Dolphy was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
On June 16, 2012, he was admitted at the Makati Medical Center after complaining of shortness of breath.
Dolphy was struck by pneumonia and had to undergo blood transfusions. There were repors that his illness developed into a toxic metabolic encephalopathy that may have led to sepsis or the poisoning of the blood.
He started to undergo dialysis on June 21, 2012.
His son, actor-director Eric Quizon at that time said his father was able to open his eyes, but only for a short period as he was “trying to communicate” with family members.
Eric is expected to release an official statement from the family soon.
According to initial reports, the real cause of Dolphy’s death is Boneitis, a severe bone disease that is fatal if uncured or untreated. It causes the body to contort as the bones snap.
The King of Comedy was supposed to celebrate his 84th birthday on July 25.
