July 3, 2012 Suspension of Classes

State weather bureau PAGASA says a Low Pressure Area (LPA) spotted 30 kilometers north of Ambulong, Batangas is bringing scattered to widespread rains over Southern Luzon including Metro Manila.

At 7:25 am, PAGASA posted on Twitter that flooding is “possible” in “low-lying areas and those located near the river channels.”

“People are advised to monitor the weather condition,” the weather agency tweeted.

Floods caused by heavy rains prompted some schools in the National Capital Region (NCR) to suspend/cancel classes on Tuesday, July 3, 2012.

Here’s the list of schools with no classes today:
  • All preschool and high schools in ParaƱaque
  • Karuhatan Elementary School and Karuhatan National High School
  • Eton International School, Quezon City
  • Jose Abad Santos Memorial School, Manila
  • Afternoon classes in preschool to high school in Manila

DILG secretery Jesse Robredo in an interview with Karen Davila on ANC’s “Headstart” Tuesday morning said “suspension of classes has been localized.”

He added that “barangay captains and school principals can suspend classes” and “the announcement should be done at 5am.”

To eliminate confusion as to who should declare suspension of classes when there’s flooding, we have attached Executive Order No. 66, issued by MalacaƱang on January 9, 2012, which prescribes rules on the cancellation or suspension of classes and work in government offices due to typhoons, flooding, other weather disturbances, and calamities.

Updates:
1. "Classes are now suspended in PUP-Sta. Mesa, PUP-San Juan, PUP-Commonwealth and PUP-Taguig."
