In the latest tropical cyclone update of PAGASA issued at 11:00 a.m.,
Sunday, 23 September 2012, "LAWIN" has intensified into a typhoon and
moved closer to Samar provinces.
At 10:00 a.m. today, 23 September 2012, the center of Typhoon "LAWIN"
was estimated based on satellite and surface data at 330 km East of
Borongan, Eastern Samar (12.0°N,128.8°E) with maximum sustained winds of
120 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 150 kph.
Bagyong LAWIN is forecest to move Northwest at 7kph.
Public storm warning signal signal number 1 (30-60 kph winds) was raised in Samar provinces.
Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal #1 are alerted against possible flashfloods and landslides.
Estimated rainfall amount is from 10 - 20 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within the 600 km diameter of the Typhoon.
Southwest Monsoon enhanced by the Typhoon will bring light to moderate rains in Western Visayas and Mindanao.
Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the eastern seaboard of Southern Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao due to big waves generated by Typhoon "LAWIN".
