PAGASA in a press release said a total eclipse of the Sun will take place on Wednesday, November 14.

The total solar eclipse, which is unfortunately not visible in the Philippines, can only be observed in Australasia, Polynesia, South Pacific Ocean, parts of Antarctica and South half of South America, the state weather bureau said.

Later this month, Filipinos will be able to see a penumbral lunar eclipse if the weather permits. PAGASA said an eclipse of the Moon will occur on November 28-29.

The Moon is expected to enter penumbra at 8:12 PM and ends the following morning at 12:53 AM (Philippine Standard Time). The spectacle can also be viewed in Europe, East Africa, Asia, Australia, Pacific and North America, the agency stated.

“A penumbra refers to a partially shaded outer region of a shadow that an object casts,” PAGASA added. “A penumbral eclipse occurs when the moon passes through the faint penumbral portion of the earth’s shadow.”
