Typhoon Pablo Latest Update (December 3, 2012)




In its 5:00 p.m. weather bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Typhoon "PABLO" has maintained its strength and is now threatening Davao Oriental to Surigao del Sur area.



At 04:00 PM today, the eye of Typhoon “PABLO” was located based on satellite and surface data at 390 km Southeast of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur (07.1°N, 129.9°E) with maximum sustained winds of 175 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 210 kph. It is forecast to move West Northwest at 26 kph.

State weather bureau PAGASA raised storm signals over parts of Visayas and Mindanao Monday afternoon as typhoon "Pablo" continued to approach land placing eleven (11) areas under public storm warning signal number 3, ten (10) and twenty (20) areas under public storm warning signal numbers 2 and 1.

PAGASA said Storm Signal Number 3 (winds of 101-185 kph), which is expected in at least 18 hrs., is now hoisted over the following areas:
  • Surigao del Norte
  • Siargao
  • Surigao del Sur
  • Dinagat Province
  • Agusan del Norte
  • Agusan del Sur
  • Misamis Oriental
  • Bukidnon
  • Davao Oriental
  • Compostela Valley
  • Davao del Norte incl. Samal Is.
Signal Number 2 (winds of 61-100 kph), which is expected within the next 24 hours, on the other hand, have been hoisted in the following areas:
  • Southern Leyte
  • Bohol
  • Southern Cebu
  • Negros Oriental
  • Siquijor
  • Misamis Occidental
  • Lanao del Norte
  • Lanao del Sur
  • North Cotabato
  • Zamboanga del Norte
Public Storm Warning Signal #1 (Winds of 45-60kph), which is expected within the next 36 hours is also hoisted in the following areas:

  • Northern Palawan
  • Calamian Grp. Of Islands
  • Cuyo Island
  • Eastern Samar
  • Western Samar
  • Leyte
  • Biliran
  • Aklan
  • Capiz
  • Antique
  • Iloilo
  • Guimaras
  • Negros Occidental
  • Rest of Cebu incl. Camotes Is.
  • Zamboanga del Sur
  • Maguindanao
  • Sultan Kudarat
  • Sarangani
  • South Cotabato
Estimated rainfall amount is from 15 to 30 mm per hour (heavy - intense) within the 600 km diameter of the typhoon.

Residents living in low lying and mountainous areas under public storm warning signal are alerted against possible flash floods and landslides. Likewise, those living in coastal areas under public storm warning signal #3 and signal #2 are alerted against big waves or storm surges generated by this Typhoon.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the Eastern Seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao.
