Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus Gets a Price Cut, Now Only P19,990

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus just got a price cut.  Samsung Mobile Philippines has announced on its Facebook page that the 7-inch tablet is now priced at P19,990, down from its previous retail price of P23,990.  That’s a discount of P4,000 which is quite huge by Philippine standards.  You can see Samsung’s announcement here.

I have always thought that the 7-inch platform is perfect for my taste and my needs.  It offers just the right amount of screen real estate, and yet it is also very portable compared to 10-inch tablets.  At its original price, I found the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus a little on the expensive side.  With the recent price cut, I am now seriously considering buying this tablet.  It has good specs and it’s also well designed.  For the price of P19,900, you get this set of specs:

The 1.2GHz dual-core Exynos processor has gotten good reviews so in terms of performance, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus should deliver.  This is way faster than the single-core CPU of the original Galaxy Tab, and even faster than the CPU on the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 10.1.

However – and this is a huge “however” – the iPad 2 with the lowest configuration has dropped its price to only P18,900.  This is a very competitive price, so the iPad 2 should be a consideration if you are not decided on whether to get a 7-inch tablet or a 10-inch one.  The iPad 2 still remains a good tablet despite the release of the new iPad (2012).  I have a suspicion that Samsung slashed the price of the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus because of the recent price cut on the iPad 2.

Whether you should get a Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus or an iPad 2 depends on the display size you are after.  If you’re looking for a 7-inch tablet, the Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus should be a good choice.  In fact, I might just get one.

Samsung unveiled Android Portable Media Galaxy S WiFi 4.2

Another new Samsung tablet-phone is out in the market that will surely love by media portable enthusiast- the Samsung Galaxy S WiFi  4.2.

The Samsung Galaxy S WiFi 4.2 features 1GHz processor along with a 4.2” screen 800×480 IPS TFT display accompanied by 512MB of RAM. It has full Android Market access, and 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.  The device has also 2-megapixel camera on the back and a front-facing VGA camera.

This phone is a solid media player or gaming device that makes it a portable media device.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich Update for Samsung Galaxy S II Now Available

 

Samsung just released an Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II.  This update has been highly anticipated and the excitement from Galaxy S II owners peaked after Samsung Philippines initially posted a March 10 update, which was immediately retracted.  

Now the update is official but the bad news is, it will initially be available in European countries including Poland, Hungary, and Sweden and also in Samsung’s country, Korea.  The global update will follow “soon”, which could be in the next couple of days. A few online tech publications have already seen and used the Ice Cream Sandwich update for the Samsung Galaxy S II and initial comments say it looks and feels like the current Android 2.3 TouchWiz interface, with practically only the multi-tasking feature added.  There’s no resizeable widgets and no unified app and widget drawer.  

What Samsung did is to retain the current look of TouchWiz as much as possible.  For those who love how TouchWiz looks, this is good news.  For those who are expecting a stock ICS look and feel, you’re in for a big disappointment.

Android 4.0 ICS software upgrade for Galaxy Note, Galaxy SII LTE, Galaxy R, Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus, 7.7, 8.9 and 10.1 will follow soon according to Samsung.  It will also offer Android 2.3 Gingerbread firmware upgrades for Galaxy S, Galaxy Tab 7″, Galaxy S Plus, Galaxy S SCL (Super Clear LCD), and Galaxy W from end of March.  The firmware upgrades for Galaxy S for instance will include Face Unlock, Snapshot and Photo Editor, among others.
