'Marian Tan' Twitter trolling vs flood victims in PH

The teasing remarks of an alleged poser of fashion show model Marian Tan Daang on Twitter against flood victims in the Philippines sparked outrage online.

A certain ‘Marian Tan’ (MRNTN) who uses the Twitter handle @shobemarian posted the following on the micro-blogging site Tuesday, August 7, 2012:

Thank God I’m not in the Philippines. Haha. Poor country.
I pity all those people who are living in the Philippines lol.

The tweets came at a time when Metro Manila and some parts of Luzon suffered massive flooding caused by heavy downpour.

When Twitter users knew about her remarks, ‘Marian Tan’ instantly became the number one trending topic nationwide past the hashtag #PrayForThePhilippines.

Netizens in social networking sites lambasted and criticized her, describing her statements as “uncaring” and “insensitive.” Some even launched verbal attacks against her.

While many were fuming mad at her, a few tweople discovered that @shobemarian is a phony persona.

As shown in the following screenshot, the tweet of @iamprettyshobs—the real Marian Tan—was completely different from that of @shobemarian.

She appealed to her Twitter followers to spread the word about her genuine account and to block the ‘poser’.

Contrary to @shobemarian’s claim that she is “not in the Philippines,” the real Marian Tan’s profile states that she a “model” and is living in “Sta. Cruz, Manila.”

Below is a photo of the real Marian Tan Daang, yet another victim of identity theft and cyberbullying.
