A boy’s arm got stuck in an escalator at Puregold Caloocan earlier this
week. The victim was identified as Felix Aparejado, a 7-year-old boy who
went to the supermarket with his aunt and cousins.
Media reports say Aparejado, who along with his cousins
got separated from his aunt, Melody, inside the mall, tripped in the
escalator on the way to the lower floor. He fell on the steps and a gap
in the escalator’s flooring caught his left hand, then swallowed almost his entire arm.
Melody blamed the mall’s management for the accident. She said it could have been prevented if there was a security guard nearby.
The boy’s arm was eventually pulled out but his relatives complained that it took at least four hours for the rescue team and maintenance crew to do the job. Fortunately, his arm didn’t have to be amputated.
No charge against the establisment was filed, but the family reportedly requested for financial assistance.
According to reports, the mall’s management took care of Aparejado’s hospitalization and promised to answer for the boy’s medicalexpenses until he fully recovers.
