Despite having swolen vocal chords, Jessica Sanchez took the high notes of a Jennifer Hudson hit “Love You I Do” with confidence, owned the stage and at the end of her performance received a standing ovation from no less than the Idol judges.
Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez, and Randy Jackson stood up and gave a hand for a long stretch to show appreciation for the talent and showmanship of the 16-year-old Filipina-Mexican singer.
Jackson was all praises for Jessica. He said, “Let may just say this. I don’t know about no doctor, I don’t know what’s going on, but what is really happening...that girl can really sing!”
“I would say one of the best of the last two nights right there...Jessica Sanchez! I’m telling you, I’m so proud of you. You’re so unbelievably talented. That confidence, you know, for that control, I’m like, how old is she? How old is she?” Jackson added before JLo butted in.
“The punctuation that you put with your body on the end of your phrases and your notes and everything, the way you pulled back, the way you let us have it, the whole thing is just really really on your year it’s just crazy. The growl, the soft spots, the yelling, all of it all of it. It’s crazy!” JLo said.
For his part, Tyler said, “You got exceptional timing. It comes out in your fingers when you’re singing and making the turnarounds. Your voice is perfect. Your pitch is perfect. They’re gonna have to pay you the next time you sing the National Anthem!”
