Former president now Pampanga representative Gloria Macapagal Arroyo filed on Wednesday, July 25, a P1-million bail for her poll sabotage case.
Arroyo’s lawyer, Atty. Ferdinand Topacio who posted the bail bond, told members of media that Pasay Regional Trial Court Branch 112 under Judge Jesus Mupas approved his client’s petition for bail.
Since December 9, 2011, the solon is incarcerated at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC) in Quezon City where she is being placed under hospital arrest.
According to Topacio, Arroyo may seek medical treatment or go home, her first time to do so since getting arrested on November 18, 2011.
Arroyo is currently facing charges for electoral sabotage in connection with the alleged poll fraud in 2007.
Electoral sabotage is supposed to be a “non-bailable offense,” but Arroyo’s camp reportedly claimed that the court found the case against the ex-president “weak.”
The detained lawmaker may be released within the day following the court’s issuance of a release order.
